Avant Garden opened in December 2023. It is a completely plant-based restaurant located in Koestraat. You can go here for freshly squeezed juices, delicious coffee, tasty sandwiches and healthy salads. The menu is as sustainable as possible and will slowly expand to even more tasty vegan dishes.

A friend invited me to dinner in Maastricht. We chose this restaurant without prior knowledge. The menu included "spicy meatballs" and a "stew with zoervleisj". When we started the stew we only found some onions and mushrooms. Where was the zoerveish?? After asking the waiter, we were surprised to hear that we were in a vegetarian restaurant. Now I have absolutely nothing against a vegetarian restaurant..but why don't you make that known at the entrance?? The owner pointed to a tiny logo on the menu and strongly disagreed with our comment. So a pot of mushrooms, some onions with a few fries and some salad for 21 euros?? Madness!

Nice appearance restaurant
Too few waiting staff, resulting in long waiting times between dishes. No proactive attitude from staff. This means that plates remain on the table and the next dish is only taken away when serving. No response to empty plates / empty glasses, so I had to keep contacting the waiting staff and that was not easy. Furthermore, a simple card mushroom burger or avocado burger are all the same burgers with minimal addition of avocado or mushroom. In short, expectations were not met.

Had such high hopes but was disappointed. The ingredients used were really basic and it felt more like fast food than a fancy restaurant experience.
The fact that it’s all vegan, the Caesar salad, nice interior
The tomato arrabiata tasted like it had a bottled tomato sauce. Could have definitely made something better at home.

Made with love. Beautifully presented down to the last detail. Flavors and ingredients I had never eaten before. A truly new experience. I look forward to going here again.
They use vegetables that are not often seen on the menu. And it tastes great.
